Our steering shaft features Flaming River chrome moly low profile needle bearing u-joints that have a reduced diameter for more clearance and reduced weight and they do not require lubrication. The original Pinto racks (1971) used a cable style linkage system instead of the later solid u-joint/rag joint used later on. Some rack and pinion systems have a slightly longer input shaft to make it easier to hook them up to the steering column. Youâll find a variety of different input shaft spline counts. Our Pinto rack has a 26-spline setupâthe standard for most Flaming River racks. Yet another consideration is the mounting arrangement.
